Michaela’s favorite subject is Math and I can verify that she is very good at it! Camp Shiloh, which is the youth camp that takes place every fall, is her favorite school activity. Outside of school, Michaela takes piano and voice lessons at which she excels. In her recent NYSMA, she received a score of 27 in her piano and 97 in her voice. Michaela’s favorite food for lunch is any kind of Italian food. Something that stands out to Michaela about our school is that we are taught about God and that everyone is like a big family. Michaela’s teacher, Mrs. Androvich, says that Michaela is a very sweet and caring student. She is always asking how she can help me and I so appreciate that! She has also developed into a very careful and hardworking student. Her neat and excellent work is something to see! I’m glad that Michaela will be in our class next year—until then, have a great summer, Michaela!

Meet Marcus!

Marcus is a sixth grader in Mrs. Graf’s class. Also known as “Wheatie,” Marcus enjoys making clay animation movies with his cousins, one of which was already published in a previous post. His favorite subject in school, other than making people laugh, is science. His fondest school memory is of Bethpage Village (what a shock!) Marcus is looking forward to spending time with his cousins and conjuring up new contraptions. His favorite player is Mark Teixeira, who also happens to play for the New York Yankees, Marcus’s favorite sports team. His favorite thing to eat? Philly cheese steaks! Marcus’s classmates think he is hilarious, talkative, happy, innovative, and smart.

A word about Marcus, from his teacher, Mrs. Graf—Marcus is known for his sense of humor and unique questions. A few years ago in class, when one little girl had the hiccoughs, Marcus said he knew of a solution, “Stand on your head and drink a gallon of pineapple juice,” he told the poor hiccoughing victim. When the class burst out laughing he said, “Or was it some other juice…” Suffice it to say that Marcus keeps our spirits happy with his funny antics and wittiness. We’re all glad he’s part of our class!

Meet our friend Annisa!

Annisa is a bright and energetic eleven-year-old student here at Long Island Baptist Academy. Playing Dutch Blitz is Annisa’s favorite activity during lunch break. Outside of school, Annisa loves to build. She is proud of the fort she built with her dad’s help in their backyard and she also likes making birdhouses.
Annisa’s teacher, Mrs. Graf, says this about her student, “Annisa is a very bright student whose energy and cheerful enthusiasm add to the daily excitement of our classroom atmosphere. Ben is looking forward to summer vacation because he might join either a baseball or a hockey team. Ben’s favorite thing about our school is the activities that we do. His favorite sports player is Brandon Dubinsky of the New York Rangers. Ben also made some friends at the softball tournament last Saturday. He met Jesse, a player on the Mighty Warriors! Ben’s friends think he is nice, a good friend, sweet, kind, athletic, has a great laugh, and is funny! Mrs. Pratnicki, Ben’s teacher, says that it’s a joy teaching Ben! He’s smart and a good student who is FULL of energy. He loves school and he loves his friends. She is an excellent student and we love having her in our student body. Her favorite subject is science since she loves learning about the earth and especially about animals. Annaleise cannot decide if she likes the Christmas activities or the Valentine’s week better. Once the weather gets warmer, Annaleise will be playing soccer outside during lunch break since it is her favorite activity. She loves it when her mom makes her pepperoni and cheese sandwiches for lunch. When Annaleise is outside of school, she loves to draw and read. Her favorite book is Nancy Drew and The Boxcar Children, and since she loves animals so much, she would like to be a veterinarian some day. Annaleise is a very cheerful girl and our school would not be the same without her.

Mrs. Graf says, “Annaleise is one of my fourth grade students and one of the best students I have ever taught! She is an excellent student and a very conscientious worker. Her cheerful, pleasant ways add so much happiness to our class. She is quite the little artist and a cheerful friend to one and all. Another wonderful thing about “Annie” is that she is so enthusiastic about everything we plan in the school! Keep up the great work and the fantastic school spirit!

This interview is with a lovely girl named Bella. Bella is in her last year in elementary school and will move up to Mrs. Androvich’s class next year. One of Bella’s fun memories of her time in elementary school is when she and Brianna would slide on the floor. Bella loves to do math in school since she loves to solve problems. But when Bella is not in school, she loves to do scrapbooking and ride her bike. Bella, just like her sister Annaleise, loves to eat pepperoni and cheese sandwiches for lunch.

Fall is Bella’s favorite season since it’s not too cold or too hot.
From Mrs. Graf: “I have had Bella in our class since 1st grade. For years Bella was the “class-mother,” always looking out for and helping others by her kind ways and helpful spirit. Now I quickly see she is ready to move onto Jr. High School! She has been a good student and a good friend to the entire class. Also, she has faithfully and diligently managed our school snack shop, keeping excellent account books and cheerfully serving all of her customers.
I just know Bella will do well when she leaves our class—but we’ll all miss her pleasant ways, her great sense of humor, and her great class spirit!”

Meet Justin!

Justin, a sixth-grader, loves to do math. One of his fondest school memories is our annual class trip to Bethpage Village. Justin is sometimes referred to as J&R’s Steakhouse, Jaybird, or the Steak by some of his peers. Justin enjoys playing baseball, basketball, and chess with his friends. He is also an aspiring artist who loves to draw in his leisure time. Of all the things he likes to eat, tacos are his favorite! JR, a huge sports fan, loves to watch his favorite players, Mark and Mariano Rivera. Something that Justin admires about our school is opening exercises and the friendly spirit that we all share. Justin also wanted to add that he greatly appreciates our teachers!
Justin’s friends say that he is a good friend, a good listener, a great chess player, athletic, and caring.

Mrs. Graf says, “Justin is a wonderful young man and I’m sorry to see him leave our class. He is respectful, kind, and fun-loving with a terrific sense of humor! He comprises one third of the “River Boys” in my class—all of whom contribute to making our classroom a very exciting and, at times, hilarious place! Justin is so tender-hearted and, as a teacher, I have often been the recipient of his kindness and helpfulness. Bernie has high expectations for himself because he either wants to be a doctor, a cook, or a politician. Bernhard enjoys reading and playing with his siblings when he has some free time. In school, Bernie really loves challenging his classmates in a nice game of chess. Bernhard, a chess phenom, participates in chess tournaments frequently.

Bernie’s favorite school activity is the Christmas party. His meal of choice would be a malt milkshake and pizza! That’s quite a unique dish, huh? I have beaten him at chess, though he would rather admit it, and even after all these years of being in my class he still doesn’t like chocolate! Bernie is one of the nicest, funniest boys you will ever meet. Rachel is a sixteen-year-old and in the eleventh grade. Her favorite subject is English because she says it's easy for her to understand. Her most memorable school experience is playing hide-and-go-seek in the old church and also going to Camp Shiloh, where the young adults and high school students go to camp every fall, which also happens to be Rachel's favorite season! Rachel's favorite day of the week is Wednesday since it's her music day - first there's Kids' Choir and after school Rachel has piano lessons. If Rachel could choose, she would have Italian food for lunch everyday. Since she bakes very well, Rachel plans on becoming a pastry chef one day.

Rachel's classmates think she is sweet, fun to be with, a great friend, bubbly, kind, friendly, respectful, and honest. Her teacher says she's an endearing girl who loves to laugh and be with her friends. She's very thoughtful, considerate, and kind toward others - young and old. She has a wonderful sense of humor and can usually be heard giggling at the antics of her peers in class. She has a sweet and pleasant attitude in school and tries with her very best effort. She's always willing to help in class by giving spelling tests to the junior high students. Our class would be definitely incomplete without our dear, sweet Rachel!

"Meet Justin" an interview by Frank

This past week I interviewed Justin - a thirteen-year-old eighth grader. Justin's favorite subject is math. In case some of you don't already know, Justin is a skilled horseback rider. One of his fondest school memories is our annual trip to Camp Shiloh. Justin loved Christmas break and getting together with family and friends. His favorite athletes are Mark Teixera from the New York Yankees, and Marion Gaborik from the New York Rangers. One day Justin would love to travel to Italy (what a shock). In the future, Justin would like to be a doctor. His peers think he has a unique sense of humor, a good heart, a bright mind, is fun to be around, and is lovable.

Justin's teacher says, "Justin adds so much life to our class (along with his cohort in crime!) Since he and Megan have been upstairs in the Junior-Senior high school, the class now has 1st break treats, coffee all day, and cocoa with whipped cream! (How can I say "No" to the Bobbsey Twins?) Justin is a very good and polite boy; he's very bright and quick to learn new concepts and adapt to new methods in class. Justin is also a superb student who also has many extra-curricular interests. Stephan is also known as Stabe, Sven II, Gutenberg the Epic, and Stabone. Stephan, a junior in High school, loves math. He enjoys playing the piano, modifying computers, and eating Greek food. Stephan spends his leisure time listening to Bach and would love to travel to Italy one day. His fondest school memory is the time that Mrs. Graf surprised all the school students by bringing them bowling on April Fool’s Day. Stephan’s favorite book is Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Unique, best friend, talented, one-of-a-kind, idealistic, witty, computer-savvy, and uplifting are all words that Stephan’s classmates used to describe him.

Stephan’s teacher, Mrs. Androvich, had this to say about her student:
If we had “Superlatives” in our school, Stephan would most probably be voted “Most Individualistic.” Stephan is not afraid to stand alone in his opinions, and in these days and times, that is certainly an asset! He is an independent, hard worker, and a gifted writer (it runs in his family!) The Lord has given Stephan an exceptional way with words and invariably is called upon for his unique and witty sentences in English Class. Megan is a thirteen-year-old girl in the eighth grade who enjoys horseback riding, reading, and drawing. Her favorite pastime event in school is the youth group’s annual trip to Camp Shiloh. During the school day, Megan enjoys doing math above all the other subjects. If she could choose, Megan would have chicken Caesar salad for lunch every day. Megan’s favorite season is winter because of the many fun activities the Christmas season holds, including the annual Christmas recital held by Mrs. Fryman and Ashley Graf. Since Megan loves to cook, she would like to work as a chef one day. Megan’s favorite Bible verse is I John 2:25, “And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.” Her classmates think she is a good friend, sweet, kind, energetic, courageous, fun, bright, and caring.

Her teacher says Megan is a bright, energetic student (and daughter!) who adds life and good-natured fun to our classroom (i.e. the changing of the clock 1 hour ahead conspiracy!) She is a lovely, good girl who strives to be upright in her character and pleasing to the Lord. The Bible says, “Every good gift… is from above,” and Megan is truly the Lord’s gift to me!

Meet Noel, also known as “the Noelster.” Noel is a die-hard Yankee fan who has been coming to our school for four years. Noel, a fifth-grader, loves Science. Noel’s favorite Yankees are Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera. One of Noel’s fondest memories of school is the day that the boys made their fort. Noel’s favorite thing about our school is that everyone is friends and they all get along; he also says we have great teachers. Noel loves to fix cars; so, he wants to be an auto mechanic when he grows up.

Noel’s peers think that he’s awesome, he’s fun to be around, funny, energetic, fantastic, hard-worker, kind, an outstanding young man.

Here’s what his teacher says: Noel is the class mayor. He is very diplomatic, and though he is quiet, the kids know he is fair. I have known Noel to be very respectful, very kind, and very helpful to me. I trust him and that alone is something a teacher really values in a child. Noel is a wonderful addition to our class—we would never be the same without him.

I would like to introduce everyone to one of the finest students here at Long Island Baptist Academy… Brooke! You may hear fellow classmates or family members call her by the name Bob, since that’s her nickname. Brooke is currently in fifth grade and among her many subjects, Bible is her favorite. Our school’s annual visit to Old Bethpage Village and the visit to the IMAX Theater of the Air and Space Museum were two of her most memorable and fun school experiences. Speaking of fun, on Thursdays Brooke’s class gets to do some fun things and therefore it’s her favorite day of the week! Brooke is also a faithful customer to the school’s exceptional snack shop. Her favorite snack she buys is popcorn. Brooke’s favorite meal to eat is chicken parmesan and maybe she will soon be able to prepare us a delicious dinner, since she is considering being a chef when she grows up! But Brooke’s ideal dream for her future is to become a missionary’s wife. Here are some of the words her fellow students used to describe their friend: kind, funny, good friend, sweet, great personality, friendly, active, nice, energetic, happy, smart, and adventurous. Here’s what her teacher, Mrs. Graf had to say about her student, “Brooke is as beautiful in spirit as she is in person. She adds so much to our class with her cheerful, cooperative, and friendly ways. As a teacher, I know her to be respectful and a very good girl. She has a great sense of humor and a great sense of expression which adds so much to the spirit of the school.”
In closing, I would like to say that Brooke’s favorite thing about our school is that everybody is kind to each other and that we learn very good lessons every morning in opening exercises that we can apply to our lives.

This week is our first installment of student interviews! Every week I shall be interviewing a student from our academy. This week, I interviewed our very own Mark Salvator!

Mark is a fifth grader in Mrs. Graf’s class. Mark, or “Cheesy” as his friends like to call him, is energetic, sharp, fun to be around, and a great friend to his peers. His favorite subject is science and his meal of choice is tacos. Thursday is Mark’s favorite day of the week and he loves to play outside in his free time. Mark’s favorite Bible verse is Joshua 24:15b. The school trip to the Air and Space Museum last year was Mark’s most memorable school experience. Mark hopes to be an engineer when he grows up. Marky’s favorite things about our school are that work is fun to do, everybody knows each other, and that we have great teachers. Now you know Mark Salvator. Here are a couple of things that his friends say about him… Josh says that Mark is a great soccer player and funny, Bernie thinks that he is a really nice boy, and Marcus says that Mark makes him laugh! Here’s what his teacher, Mrs. Graf, has to say about Mark:

Okay, let me tell you about Mark Salvator. He is quiet—but fun-loving, an observer, but enthusiastic about everything we do. As his teacher, I have found him to be very respectful, a good friend to all, and a hardworking, neat young man. One more thing—he has a terrific sense of humor! We are all glad to have “Marky” as a special part of our school.

Civil War Day Interviews
by Tyler Albani

As most of our readers know, this past week at Long Island Baptist Academy was School Spirit Week.
